Our extensive supply chain network plays a crucial role in helping to run a safe and efficient railway.
Every year we:

  • Buy and deliver 2,000km of rail and 2.5 million tonnes of ballast.
  • Operate 1,200 rail vehicles.
Behind the scenes we:
  • Process £7,000,000,000 of payments.

  • Handle over 23,000 IT helpdesk calls.
  • Make sure everyone’s wages are paid on time.
Every year:
  • Mechanical and electrical locking fitters maintain 468 signal boxes and 387 ground frames.

  • Operational property helpdesk process over 200,000 calls.

Brief Description
Vacancy Type: Agile Working, which may include Weekends and Nights.
Duration: This is a permanent opportunity.

Salary: £27,591 - £32,000

You will be responsible for providing advice and support to the team on all maintenance, safety and environmental processes and procedures. This will cover a wide range of activities from providing strategic advice on projects, carrying out risk assessments and liaising with contractors to ensure a positive safety message is being delivered.
The main goal of your work will be to promote cultural and behavioural change in all aspects of health, safety and environmental management at Network Rail.
This role is based in Crewe with some travel required to visit different sites around the country
About the role (External)

What will you be doing?

1. Coaching and guiding the team on workforce safety and environmental Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) and the Environmental System (EMS).
2. Assisting in upskilling in relation to health, safety and environmental issues.
3. Providing support in the delivery of workforce accident and incident investigations.
4. Offering support to the Workforce Health Safety and Environment Advisors in the collation of workforce health, safety and environment data.
5. Assisting in the review and acceptance of method statements and risk assessments.
6. Giving expert advice in the delivery of the accident reduction strategy.
7. Carrying out the briefing and implementation of national and area safety campaigns.
8. Monitoring workforce safety behaviours in the workplace.
Do you meet the following criteria?

  • Experience of working in a maintenance environment

  • Able to understand and articulate / explain written procedures

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills

  • Knowledge and experience of accident and incident investigation processes

  • Good working knowledge of problem solving skills

  • Able to understand simple data and numerical trends

  • Basic IT skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Professional safety or environment related qualification

  • A basic understanding of safety procedures and legislation applicable to railway maintenance
